Seminar “Within the Open Government Partnership” to launch the Open Government Program at the local level and the project of capacity building of municipalities in public communication and citizen participation

As a part of the implementation of commitment 11 of the 3rd OGP action plan (2018-2020), aiming to build Open Government on the local level by adopting the OGP approach and standards, the e-Government Unit at the Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Modernization and Public Policies organized, in collaboration with the OECD and the Ministry of Local Affairs and Environment, a seminar entitled “Towards Open Municipalities in Tunisia: The Role of Public Communication and Citizen Participation”.
This seminar, which took place in Sousse on October 23 and 24, 2019, aims to launch the implementation of a series of initiatives establishing the Open Government at the level of 12 municipalities. Thus, this event tend to present the approach and processes concerning the Open Gov action Plan drafting through a participatory approach.
Likewise, this seminar gave the starting signal of a project on a Study with the OECD on public communication and citizen participation in Tunisian municipalities.

This seminar brought together a group of mayors and a number of municipal councilors and public officials from the 12 municipalities concerned by the implementation of commitment 11 of the third OGP action plan. In addition to some civil society representatives.
This seminar was also an opportunity for information exchange and experiences sharing with three public officials in three European cities namely Nanterre in France, Madrid in Spain and Ancôna in Italy. These three experts presented their experiences in the field of public communication and citizen participation.
In the same context, workshops were organized on public communication strategies and tools currently being adopted in municipalities and on their role in strengthening the principles of open government and possible mechanisms to support and develop them.
