Organization of the National Hackthon on the open public data reuse #OpenGovDataHack2020

The e-Government Unit at the Ministry of Civil Service, Modernization of Administration and Public Policies organized, in partnership with the World Bank, its first national Hackathon “OpenGovDataHack2020”.

This competition is part of the implementation of the 2nd commitment of the 3rd OGP national action plan on “instauring the legal and organizational framework facilitating the public data release”. It is also a project included in the Open Data action plan. This Hackathon brought together 38 teams and more than 150 participants of different ages, from different regions, and having various skills, characterized by their complementarity and consistency. It also contributed to the development of intellectual exchanges by establishing a kind of challenges and teamwork which met simultaneously throughout the event despite the competitive atmosphere. It is mentioned that more than 640 candidates subscribed to this hackathon, including 67% students; and 11% civil servants, and the proportion of participants is between 18 and 26 years has exceeded 70%.

The preparatory works of this Hackathon spanned almost a year. Considering the efforts made to publish the data of the three public structures concerned by this event in quantity and quality required in order to allow participants to develop innovative and added-value solutions through their reuse. Six (06) teams, among the 38 competing teams that reached the Hackathon final, were able to excel by developing digital and innovative solutions in the transport, culture and healthcare sectors by the exploitation and reuse of open public data published on the national portal and sectorial portal of open data. In this regard, the six (06) teams were honored at the closing ceremony of the Hackathon for their efforts and to encourage them to continue their work by awarding them prizes and certificates of appreciation. In addition, four other teams were also honored by offering them symbolic gifts in kind after the vote of guests and participants as innovative projects. Photos of the Hackathon
